The Life Aquatic on Minecraft is the Last Update

The Minecraft developers at Mojang/Microsoft have put sterling support into this incredible game across every format imaginable for so many years. But with Minecraft 2 looming, and the capabilities of new machines likely to focus on more complex worlds and features, it looks like the updates are about to end on legacy versions.

Minecraft.net post highlights that a host of older versions including Vita will stop getting updates after the next soggy patch (release date TBC). So, its a case of So long, and thanks for all the fish! But seriously, thanks to the developers for supporting the Vita version (which sold a million physical copies alone in Japan).

No doubt a few people will feel abandoned and betrayed, but they really need to grow up. Mojang has gone way beyond any normal level of game support, mainly as Minecraft went far beyond any normal game.

I still have my physical copy and dive into the updates from time to time. But, as the game that really got my son into computing in the wider sense and gaming, it will always hold a special place in my heart.
