PSP2, Switch 2 and an Xbox handheld... a brighter portable future?

Phantasy Star Online 2 continues to roll in Japan

Sorry for all the boring biz posts this week, but it is earnings season in Japan. Sega Sammy is the latest to report, and buried in its statements are a couple of fun Vita related snippets.

“PHANTASY STAR ONLINE 2 celebrates its fourth anniversary since its release, topped 4.5 million IDs in Japan and continued to maintain its strengths." No breakdown of what the Vita sales are for that, but Vita players passed a million in 2014.

And, the updates keep on churning out and boxed Special and Deluxe Editions keep appearing in stores, plus bags of DLC. The latest features characters Vivian and Emilia Percival to celebrate 10 years of PS2-era Phantasy Star Universe.

Remember when Sega promised to bring it west? on PC at least! Also mentioned were strong sales of Persona 5, given those, I suppose there's some hope of a Golden release at some point in the future as Sega gets Atlus to milk the cash cow.

Overall, sales are down but profitability is up as the company tightens its belts even further, basically Sega remains in very poor health.
