PSP2, Switch 2 and an Xbox handheld... a brighter portable future?

PS Vita firmware 1.8 adds PS Classics support

Trouble is, its not out yet. This snippet from Japan was mentioned by Sony as the company rolled out some PS2 games for the PS3. The update will be out sometime in the summer and finally let us play the likes of Final Fantasy VII, Ridge Racer Type 4, Vagrant Story and others on the Vita's gorgeous screen.

Since we're currently on version 1.69, let's hope Sony skips 1.7 and brings us straight to 1.8 in the next few weeks. Personally, I still think a Gaikai-based subscription service will be a better deal than downloading the limited number of PS One games, but we'll see in time.

Until then, watch the skies for the next Vita firmware update, and await the day that annoying tag next to your PS One games "Cannot download to a PS Vita system" will finally go away. What PS One games will you be grabbing when this firmware update hits?

Here's a snippet from the translated Japanese press release:

"You can enjoy the games that were released in the past on the PC Engine and PlayStation, in version 1.80 on PS Vita.
